Mill Run evens series with Economy Electric
Mill Run and Economy Electric have played three games in a best-of-three series and yet a fourth will be needed to determine the winner of their Fayette County Baseball League semifinal clash.
Bill Bendis pitched a five-hitter and Mill Run used a balanced attack to win Tuesday’s game at Laurel Highlands High School, 10-2, to set up a deciding game 6 p.m. today at Mill Run.
Economy Electric won the first game Sunday and Monday’s game ended in a tie.
Mill Run jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Tuesday with a run in the second and two in the third before Economy Electric responded with two in the bottom of the third.
Mill Run pulled away with a five-run fourth, highlighted by Sam Beucher’s two-run double, to go up 8-2, chasing starting and losing pitcher Jacob Uhazie in the process.
Mill Run added two more in the sixth to cap the game’s scoring.
“The tie Monday was frustrating because we had 14 hits but stranded 15 runners,” Mill Run manager Ray Orndorff said. “Tonight we had a big inning and were able to extend the lead and Bill Bendis pitched a great game.
“Hopefully, we can carry this momentum into tomorrow’s game.”
Bendis struck out nine and walked none.
Chris Firestone had two hits and two RBIs for Mill Run. Seth Bruner also had two hits and Grant Wortman doubled.
Mitch Gauden and Cody Jackson doubled for Economy Electric.
