Rohanna slips down the leaderboard
Robert Rohanna opened the third round of the Lexus Peru Open presentado por Scotiabank with a bogey and closed with another, scrambling in between to finish with a 1-over 73 to slip eight spots down the leaderboard into a tie for 20th place.
The Waynesburg Central graduate enters today’s final round with a three-day total of 6-under 210. Argentina’s Augusto Nunez sits atop the leaderboard with a three-round total of 19-under 197.
“It was just one of those days,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “I had four 3-putts today.”
All four of his 3-putts led to bogeys. Rohanna finished with six bogeys, three on the front and three more on the back.
Rohanna managed to cover his opening bogey with a birdie on No. 3, but went bogey-bogey on Nos. 5 and 6 to lose the momentum. He closed the front nine with three straight pars to go out in 2-over 38.
“I didn’t hit it that close on the front, so two of the 3-putts were from long distance, like over 50 feet. But, it still stinks when that happens,” explained Rohanna. “I hit just in the rough on two holes off the tee and got ‘flyers’ both times. You just can’t miss greens long here.”
Rohanna opened the back nine with a bogey to push his score for the round to 3-over. He recovered though, with back-to-back birdies twice over the next five holes to pull to 1-under for the round.
“The back nine I was feeling it, and unfortunately bogeyed No. 10 because I 3-putted from 5 feet. I had a downhill sliding putt and then lipped out on the high side. I ended up having six feet coming back and missed that, too,” said Rohanna.
Rohanna limped out on the back with bogey-par-bogey to finish 1-under 35.
“I can’t say I putted really bad or anything because I actually made some really good putts on the back nine. I just had a few bad shots coming in to finish two (strokes) over the last three holes,” said Rohanna. “All the birdies were good putts and I made a good par save on 17.
“I didn’t hit it that great today, but got it back to under par for the day through 15 which was awesome. I’m pretty bummed about the finish, though.”
The way he’s played this week has Rohanna believing he can finish strong.
“Hopefully, I can just hit it better tomorrow and make all my putts. This week I tied for first in the pro-am with a 67 and I shot a 65 in a game with my friends on Tuesday, so I can’t definitely shoot a low number,” said Rohanna.
Rohanna did end the third day on a positive when he, not surprisingly, won the long drive contest.
“The only good note today was there was a long drive contest tonight after the round, and I won! I drove it 345 and second place was 323. I actually won $500 so that was cool,” said Rohanna.
