Waynesburg women have tough time at CMU
The Carnegie Mellon women pulled away in the second quarter Tuesday night as the Tartans cruised to an 82-56 non-conference victory over visiting Waynesburg.
Carnegie Mellon (4-0) led 23-20, 50-32 and 71-48 at the quarter breaks.
Addy Knetzer came off the bench to lead the Yellow Jackets (1-3) with 12 points. Mackenna Drazich added 10 points as a reserve.
Carnegie Mellon’s Lisa Murphy and Jackie Hudepohl shared scoring honors with 28 points apiece. Liza Otto added 12, while Hudepohl grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.
Point Park 83, Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus — The visiting Lady Roaring Lions fell behind early Monday night and didn’t recover for a non-conference road loss to the Lady Pioneers.
Point Park (7-2) led 24-15, 46-31 and 68-46 at the quarter breaks.
Taylor Smith had a double-double for Penn State Fayette (1-4) with 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Shannon Flament finished with 15 points. Hayley Moreland (12) and Ally Rudolph (10) were also in double figures.
Angelina Starr scored a game-high 19 points for Point Park. Kaitlyn Smith added 13.
Men’s basketball
Frostburg State (Md.) 68, Waynesburg 65 — The Yellow Jackets held a 6-point lead at halftime, but visiting Frostburg State rallied for a non-conference win with a 37-28 advantage in the final 20 minutes.
B.J. Durham led Waynesburg (0-4) with 18 points. D.J. Ritchie finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
James Peters scored a game-high 19 points for Frostburg (1-3). Tyler Michael finished with 11 points. Zachary Coalman pulled down 11 rebounds.
Point Park 125, Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus 62 — The Pioneers doubled up the visiting Roaring Lions Monday night for a non-conference victory.
Point Park (6-4) led 62-27 at halftime and carried the play in the final 20 minutes with a 63-35 advantage.
No one scored double figures for Penn State Fayette (2-3). London Hoxie and Anthony Bristol both scored eight points.
Conversely, Point Park had seven players in double figures led by Jerah’me Williams’ game-high 25 points. Lasan Konate had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sa’iid Allen, T.J. Lanier and Kelvin Goodwin all scored 17 points. Fousseini Konate (13) and Jaylen Mann (12) also had double digits.
