Fishing report
Rain kept most angers away from the water for the first half of last week, but trout stockings were scheduled for Oct. 1 and 2 in Fayette County.
A few trout were caught in the Youghiogheny River Lake dam outflow in Confluence by fishermen using eggs and night crawlers for bait, said Scott Gates of S&S Bait and Tackle in Wharton Township.
Pike and a few perch caught in Deep Creek Lake in Maryland, he said.
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) scheduled trout stockings at Dunlap Creek Lake in Menallen Township and Meadow Run in Ohiopyle State Park on Thursday and Dunbar Creek in Dunbar Township and Virgin Run Lake in Franklin Township on Friday.
In Greene County and southern Washington County, catfish remain highly active in tributaries to the Monongahela River. Live cut baits and heavy odor paste baits are working well, according to the PFBC.
Walleye anglers are reporting a better bite. One angler caught a 13-pound walleye near a area lock and dam, according to the PFBC.
Bass anglers are having the most success in the early morning and late afternoon hours around heavy structure.
The rain has impacted water levels in rivers and streams. Anglers and boaters can check on current water conditions by visiting http://m.waterdata.usgs.gov. The site, which is accessible from a mobile device, provides real-time information on river and stream conditions.
The PFBC is also reminding anglers to take all their trash and, if possible, trash left by other people, out with them when leaving their fishing spots. Local property owners are becoming more aware of the littering and may not let their property open if the problem persists. Local waterways conservation officers will have zero tolerance in order to maintain those property accesses, the PFBC said.
