The Rock outguns California, 56-21

Slippery Rock scored 42 unanswered points after California’s John Franklin tied the game at 7-7 in the first quarter as The Rock cruised to a 56-21 PSAC-West Conference home win Saturday afternoon.

Both teams are now 2-1 in the conference. Slippery Rock improves to 5-1 overall, while the Vulcans are now 4-2.

Quarterback Dante Nania led the offensive surge with touchdown passes of 74, 45 and 16 yards and scoring runs of 2 and 6 yards. Shamar Greene also scored in the 42-point run.

Nania completed 18-of-26 passes for 312 yards and one interception. He also rushed for 59 yards.

Slippery Rock’s Julian Durden gained 106 yards on just 10 carries, while Greene finished with 92 yards rushing on 19 carries. Jaimire Dutrieuille caught three passes for 120 yards and one touchdown.

Jordan Bowman scored on a 40-yard punt return for the Vulcans just 10 seconds into the fourth quarter. Jimmy Wheeler scored on an 18-yard run with 13:02 remaining in the game.

Vulcan quarterback James Harris completed 24-of-41 passes for 349 yards and three interceptions. He was also sacked four times.

Kowan Scott was Cal’s leading receiver with seven receptions for 143 yards. Luke Smorey also had a good game with five catches for 122 yards.
