South Park upends Belle Vernon, 4-1

South Park could only manage three hits but scored all its runs in the second inning to defeat visiting Belle Vernon, 4-1, in a Section 4-AAA baseball game on Thursday.

Winning pitcher Kyle Thompson gave up six hits and three walks with four strikeouts in going the distance.

Evan Hannan had four of the Leopards’ six hits.

Losing pitcher Matt Benicky gave up the four runs in two innings with four walks and four strikeouts.

It was Belle Vernon’s second loss in three games after a 5-0 start. The second-place Leps (6-2, 3-2), who now trail section-leading Laurel Highlands by two games, travel to Ringgold today.

South Park (6-4, 2-2) visits West Mifflin today.
