Cal U’s Hill, Friend reach NCAA provisional marks at Bison Outdoor Classic

Sophomore Summer Hill posted the fastest time in NCAA Division II this season in the 1,500-meter run on Saturday and was one of three Vulcans to reach NCAA provisional marks while opening competition at the Bison Outdoor Classic.

Hill placed eighth overall in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4 minutes, 27.67 seconds while competing in a field of 55-plus runners. She holds the top time in the country in the event this year by three-hundredths of a second and shattered her previous season high by over nine seconds.

Uniontown grad Julie Friend finished as the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships. She posted a time of 10:44.00 to finish second in a field of 40-plus runners. Friend recorded the eighth-fastest time in NCAA Division II this season.
