Means dashes to top time
California University of Pa. sophomore Jae’Len Means ran the fastest indoor season time in the 200-meter dash in the entire nation last weekend as he broke his own record at the Youngstown State Icebreaker.
Means’ time of 21.50 seconds in the sprint broke his own school record and was an NCAA provisional-qualifying time.
Joe Vedilago won the 400 with the best time in the PSAC indoor season of 48.99 seconds. He placed fourth in the 200 and qualified for the league championship with his time of 22.23 seconds.
Francis Jajua, Samir Thomas and Etiosa Evboumwan all qualified for the league indoor championship in the 60-meter dash. Yough graduate Aaron Morgan qualified for the PSAC indoor championship in the high jump and 400. Jajua, Means, Morgan and Vedilago won the 1,600 relay. Jajau also qualified in the 200.
Jaquan Stuckey hit the league standard in the triple jump, while Julian Gore hit the time in the 60 hurdles.
Cannon, Friend hit times
California University of Pa. sophomore Kaila Cannon and junior Julie Friend hit the NCAA Division II provisional marks last weekend in the Vulcans’ indoor track & field season opener at Youngstown State.
Friend, a Uniontown graduate, posted the fastest time in the 1-mile run in Division II this indoor season with her time of 4:56.14.
Cannon set the school record in the long jump with her leap of 5.64 meters (18-6) and then won the triple jump with a top effort of 11.46 meters (37-7¼).
Kailah Holmes (triple jump) and Alicia Collier (200, 400) both qualified for the league indoor championship.
PAC honors Dobbs
Washington & Jefferson senior and Yough graduate Devon Dobbs was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning the weight throw last weekend at the Marty Pushkin Track Classic hosted by West Virginia.
Dobbs tossed the weight 43 feet, 10½ inches for first place. Dobbs also finished third in the shot put with a throw of 32-1½ (9.79 meters).
Volleyball
Hayes all tournament
California University of Pa. senior outside hitter Danielle Hayes was selected to the all-tournament team named at the close of the conclusion of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament.
Hayes had 15 kills and 11 digs in the Vulcans’ lone tournament match, a 3-1 loss to Pitt-Johnstown.
Wrestling
Buxton PAC’s top wrestler
Waynesburg junior Tristan Buxton was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week after he won the 125-pound bracket last Saturday at the Ohio Northern Invitational.
Buxton finished 4-0 in the tournament, including a major decision and a 14-10 decision against Brendan Ladd Alma in the finals. Buxton improved his record to 15-1.
Basketball
Knetzer Player of the Week
Waynesburg junior forward Addy Knetzer was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Knetzer had double-doubles in both Yellow Jackets’ victories. She had 20 points and 14 rebounds at Bethany and added a 24-point, 10-rebound performance against Grove City.
