Charleroi downs South Allegheny girls

Charleroi 67, South Allegheny 46 — Charleroi opened Section 2-AAA girls basketball with a convincing 67-46 win over previously unbeaten South Allegheny Monday night at Charleroi.

The Lady Cougars (4-1, 1-0) got 19 points from Sierra Short, 17 from Maria Claybaugh and 13 from Kaitlyn Riley, while South Allegheny (3-1, 0-1) got 21 from Sydney Kirkwood and 11 from Alyssa Kennedy.

Charleroi opened with a 23-9 scoring edge in the first quarter and moved out to a 36-19 halftime edge. The Lady Cougars outscored SA 32-27 in the second half.
