Phelan wins competition
Cassandra Phelan, a junior at Laurel Highlands, cleared 3.52 meters (11-6) on her first attempt last Saturday to finish first in the high school girls first division at the Akron Pole Vault Convention held at the University of Akron.
Phelan passed at the opening height of 2.92 meters, and then successfully cleared 3.07 meters, 3.22 meters and 3.37 meters to advance to her winning height of 3.52 meters.
She missed all three attempts at 3.67 meters (12 feet).

Knetzer honored
Waynesburg University sophomore Addy Knetzer was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her play last week in a pair of victories. The forward averaged 21½ points and 14½ rebounds in the two games.
Knetzer had double-doubles in the wins against Saint Vincent (25 points, 15 rebounds) and Bethany, W.Va. (18 points, 14 rebounds). She made 65.4 percent (17-of-26) of her field goal attempts and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) of her free throws.
