Union Cleaners earns key win in Grebb league
Action continued in the Budd Grebb Memorial Basketball League Tuesday night at Mechanics Park in California.
In the opening game of the night, Dairy Queen (3-4) downed Bee Graphix (0-7), 66-51.
DQ opened up a 32-25 lead at the half and slowly extended its lead the rest of the way.
Ben Wilson (18) and Kolton Rush (16) combined for 34 points for the winners with Rush (14) and Craig Weaver (10) combining for 24 rebounds.
Dakota Browning led Bee Graphix, and all scorers, with 20 while Joey Green (12) and Ezra Guty (11) also hit double figures.
In the big game of the night, Union Cleaners (6-1) cemented its hold on first place with a 57-49 over Northwood Realty (4-3).
Alvin Ross (12), Joe Sabolek (11), and DeJour Thomas (ten) combined for 33 points for Union Cleaners with Sabolek adding 20 rebounds.
Kass Taylor led Northwood Realty and all scorers with 20 points while Darton McIntyre added 16.
Farmers Insurance (5-2) remained one game behind Union Cleaners with an 86-59 blowout over Campy’s Pizza (3-4).
“Our team played hard and played well tonight and that was the difference,” said Famers Insurance coach Dana Zajicek. “The league is wide open and we have to keep doing our part.”
Lontae Smith (26), Anthony Pampena (23), Vaughn Taylor (13) and Phillip Pace (11) hit double figures for the winners while Shandon Marshall (26) and Jaden Taylor (19) paced Campy’s Pizza.
Pampena and Pace led Farmers with 12 rebounds each while Caleb Carson and Taylor each added 11 apiece.
Taylor added eight rebounds for Campy’s Pizza.
In girls action Monday, Lee Supply edged AMD, 51-50, Dairy Queen beat Cedarbrook, 38-32, and State Farm beat AMD, 54-47.
In Lee Supply’s win, Alie Seto led the winners with 17 points while Kinlee Whited led AMD with 20 points.
Bella Long paced Dairy Queen with 12 points while Megan Kallock matched her total to pace Cedarbrook.
Kaitlyn Riley led State Farm in its win while Kerri Bungard led AMD with 20 points.
The girls league returns to action tonight.
