Bunner earns first team All-State softball honors
Briana Bunner had a solid season for the Southmoreland softball team this spring, and the senior outfielder was rewarded with a spot on the Pennsylvania High School Softball Association Class AAA All-State first-team.
Yough’s Allie Harvey, Aubrie Mance, Alona Sleith and Hannah Bach, Belle Vernon’s Bailey Parshall and Mount Pleasant’s Meadow Uncapher were also honored on the all-state team.
Bunner batted over .550 this season for the Lady Scots, with 11 extra-base hits and 17 RBI. Southmoreland’s season came to an end with a 9-5 loss to rival Mount Pleasant in the WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinals.
Harvey and Mance were named to the second team. The Lady Cougars defeated Lampeter-Strasburg, 1-0, to win their first PIAA title after finishing third in the WPIAL.
Harvey, a senior catcher, batted over .500 with 28 runs scored and 23 RBI, while Mance, a sophomore second baseman, batted around .430 with 21 RBI.
Sleith, a junior third baseman, and Bach, a sophomore shortstop, earned honorable mention.
Sleith batted over .550 with 13 extra-base hits and 15 RBI, while Bach hit around .400 with 26 hits.
Uncapher, a sophomore, pitched the Lady Vikings to their first WPIAL crown, with a 10-0 victory over West Allegheny. The sophomore went 13-6 with a minuscule .122 ERA. She struck out 141 and walked 19. Uncapher was solid at the plate, as well, with five home runs, 22 RBI and an average close to .400.
Parshall, a sophomore left-hander, went 16-5 for the Lady Leopards with a .679 ERA. She struck out 213, while walking 23.
