Yough looking to improve

By Bill Hughes for The 2 min read

A year ago, the Yough Cougars finished 8-8 overall but only had a 4-8 record in Section 2-AAA play.

Coach Craig Spisak did not hesitate when asked what his team has to do to be successful this year.

“We have to finish,” he said. “Finish pitches, finish at-bats, finish plays and finish games.

“The last two seasons, we have finished in last but we have worked extremely hard during the offseason and I am anxious to see how we compete.”

Yough lost three one-run games and had it won all three, the teams would have made the playoffs.

The team features six players who have lettered for two years in seniors Eric Borkovich (outfield), Nolan Kosh (outfield and pitcher), Matt Huss (pitcher and first base), TJ Lux (outfield and pitcher), and Shane Fajt (pitcher and shortstop) as well as junior Dom Charletta (second base).

Junior catcher Dylan O’Rourke also lettered last season.

Senior Brayden Hegedus or sophomore Scott Houseman will man third base while junior Ryan Everly will start in the outfield.

As far as section opponents, Spisak shared his thoughts.

“Indiana, Mt. Pleasant, Derry and Southmoreland are most people’s picks for the top of the section,” he said.
