AG blanks Sto-Rox in baseball opener
Albert Gallatin’s Adam Simon had three hits (including a double), scored four runs and drove in four runs to lead the Colonials over Sto-Rox, 13-0, in a five-inning baseball game played Saturday.
Nate Torbich, Austin Bergman and Sam Hlatky combined on a one-hitter as the Colonials (1-0) shut out the Vikings (0-1) in the season opener for both teams. Billy Frauens took the loss for the Vikings, giving up four hits and six runs (two earned), in two innings. He also had the only hit for Sto-Rox.
Simon drove in Joey Embacher and RJ Hlatky, who both singled and advanced on wild pitches in the first inning. Simon also drove in courtesy runner Taylor Workman in the third inning and Embacher again in the fourth inning. Cody Riggin also doubled for the Colonials.
Torbich pitched three innings for the victory, striking out eight and walking one, while only giving up an infield single. Bergman pitched the fourth inning and Hlatky the fifth inning to complete the one-hit shutout.
