Rohanna finishes tied for 31st in Kia Classic
Rachel Rohanna was unable to maintain consistency in the final round of the Kia Classic Sunday, finishing with 1-over 73 for the third time in four days to finish tied for 31st place.
The Waynesburg Central graduate had three birdies in the final round at Aviara Golf Club, but the first two were followed by bogeys with the third one coming after a bogey. She bogeyed the final hole to finish with a four-round total of 3-under 285.
Lydio Ko shot 19-under 269 to win the tournament.
Rohanna carded a 29 on her final nine holes in the second round with her first career hole-in-one and five birdies, but was unable to recreate the magic in the final 36 holes over the weekend.
“I had pretty bad luck all day. I had seven or eight shots top on top of a hill roll backwards. Only one worked out … the hole-in-one,” explained Rohanna. “I had some terrible bad luck on the last hole. The ball landed on the down slope in the bunker. I had a tough pitch out. I two-putted for bogey.”
Rohanna is the next two weeks, so she plans on a little work on her game to prepare for the LOTTE Championship presented by Hershey in Hawaii on April 13-16.
“My approach shots (were not consistent). I was too concerned with where not to mishit it,” said Rohanna. “Doing it 50 percent is not good enough. I’m going to the range to hit more balls.”
Although disappointed she didn’t score better, Rohanna acknowledged her game is moving in the right direction with her best finish to date in her rookie year on the LPGA Tour. Rohanna has made three cuts in five tournaments played, finishing 44th and 80th in the previous two tournaments.
“I’ve improved a lot since last year. If you told me (she’d finish in the top 35), I’d be happy with that,” closed Rohanna.
