Maples edge visiting Gators, 6-5
Geibel Catholic scored three runs in the top of the seventh, but Garret Kiger didn’t allow the tying run to cross the plate to preserve Mapletown’s 6-5 non-section home victory.
The Maples (1-1) were leading 3-0 when they scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Matt Rush’s two-run single was the key hit in the inning.
The Gators (0-1) scored single runs in the top of the second and fourth innings.
Pat Clites pitched the first five innings to earn the victory, allowing two runs on two hits. Garret Kiger pitched the final two innings for the save, allowing three runs on two hits with two strikeouts, one hit-batsman and three walks.
Kyle Toth went the distance in the loss, allowing seven hits with eight strikeouts, one walk and one hit-batsman.
Kiger also tripled, scored two runs and had an RBI. Dylan Rush had two singles, three stolen bases and two runs. R.J. Durr had a pair of singles and Shawn Hennessey doubled.
