Lady Roaring Lions’ season ends in USCAA tournament quarterfinals
Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, suffered two losses on Friday in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) tournament to see its season come to an end at the VB Sportsplex in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The Lady Roaring Lions (25-8) played their final match this year against Florida College (25-9) in the quarterfinals of the USCAA tournament. Penn State Fayette lost, 3-0, with set scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-16.
Siteri Tale (Laurel Highlands) led the Lady Roaring Lions in kills with 10.
Connellsville grad and senior Caitlyn Williams had 12 digs in her final collegiate match. Tori Helmantoler (Ringgold) had 17 assists.
Senior Janelle Cooper (Laurel Highlands) had three kills and seven digs and fellow senior Kelsey Tyler had a kill in her final college match.
Madison Bitton (11), Rachel Tharp (11) and Abigail Hodges (10) had double-digit kills for Florida College. Teammate Baylee Gunter had 38 assists.
Fayette suffered a 2-0 setback in pool play earlier on Saturday morning to Florida National. Florida won by set scores of 25-15 and 25-18.
Helmantoler had seven assists and four digs against Florida National. Cooper and Tale had four kills for Fayette.
The Lady Roaring Lions’ future looks bright, as coach Nancy Wheeler is losing only three seniors in Cooper, Tyler and Williams.
