PAC announces team
Waynesburg University had seven players earn Presidents’ Athletic Conference honors this season.
Junior defensive lineman Brad Grinnen (defense) and freshman return specialist Ta’Vaughn Johnson (special teams) earned first-team honors.
The Yellow Jackets’ senior offensive lineman Nick Agliori and junior wide receiver Kevin Barnes Jr. earned honorable mention honors on offense, while senior defensive lineman Zach Machuga, junior linebacker Brent Blacharczyk and sophomore linebacker Michael Heasley gained honorable mention honors on defense.
Bethany (W.Va.) freshman linebacker and Belle Vernon graduate Colin Johnston was also an honorable mention defensive selection.
Carnegie Mellon junior running back Sam Benger was honored as the PAC Offensive Most Valuable Player, while Bethany (W.Va.) senior linebacker Donavan Hayden received top honors as the Defensive Most Valuable Player. Saint Vincent College senior quarterback Derek Stewart was named the Newcomer of the Year.
Thomas More’s Regis Scafe was the PAC Coach of the Year and the Grove City Wolverines won the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Hrapchak top defender
California (Pa.) junior linebacker Luke Hrapchak was named the PSAC Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week for his MVP performance in Saturday’s PSAC Championship game against Kutztown. Hrapchak finished with a game-high 15 tackles (11 solo), 1½ tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and two passes defensed in the Vulcans’ 49-7 victory.
Volleyball
Leto honored
California (Pa.) junior outside hitter Ashley Leto was named the PSAC Southwest Volleyball Athlete of the Week.
Leto averaged a team-high 5.40 digs for the Vulcans in three divisional wins to clinch the automatic qualifier in the league tournament from the PSAC Southwest. Leto had 26 kills and 54 digs in 10 sets of action in the three victories. She had 26 digs in the 3-1 win over Indiana (Pa.).
