Yough picks Charletta, Pytlak
Known as standout student-athletes, Yough seniors Dom Charletta and Morgan Pytlak have been chosen as the school’s fall sports representatives in the Centennial Chevrolet Scholar/Athlete Spotlight program.
“It is cool to represent Yough, and it is definitely an honor to be nominated,” said Charletta, who was on the golf team, wrestles and is a captain on the baseball team. “I think it is pretty cool seeing that there are so many sports and this honor went to a golf player.”
Pytlak was a captain of the volleyball team this past season.
“I am really honored and it is a cool experience to be chosen,” she said. “I appreciate the staff thinking that highly of me and it means a lot.”
Both students have a 4.0 GPA and have a good feel for what their future holds.
“I will be going to Pitt-Greensburg to study biochemistry,” said Pytlak, who is the daughter of Jeff and Laurie Pytlak of Rillton. “Chemistry has been my favorite subject at Yough, and my favorite teacher is Mrs. Suehr.”
Charletta, the son of Ted and Diana Charletta of West Newton, has narrowed his post-secondary options.
“I will either go to the Naval Academy or RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) to major in mechanical engineering,” he said. “At Yough, Mr. Cannizzaro is my favorite teacher, and physics has been my favorite class.”
When talking about their respective influences on them as athletes, both looked to a relative.
“My grandmother has been my greatest influence on me as an athlete,” Pytlak said. “My most admired professional athlete is (former Penn State standout volleyball player) Micha Hancock.”
Charletta shared his.
“My father has been the greatest influence on me as an athlete,” he said. “And Jackie Robinson is the professional athlete that I admire the most.”
Both Pytlak and Charletta prefer texting to Twitter and Facebook, and they both shared their most memorable sports moment.
“Winning the section title in baseball last year is mine so far,” said Charletta, who can be found eating Buffalo chicken pizza and watching either the “Fast and the Furious” series or “Gone in 60 Seconds.”
Pytlak, who likes gluten-free French toast and the movie “Avatar,” said that, “being named Yough’s MVP at a local school tournament” was her favorite sports moment.
When asked what they would do if President of the United States for one day, Pytlak took a serious approach, while Charletta took an adventurous tactic.
“I would enforce utter and absolute world peace,” Pytlak said.
“I would take Air Force One to Dubai and skydive out of it,” quipped Charletta.
