Erminio, UPJ fall short against Gannon
Marissa Erminio and her Pitt-Johnstown teammates gave top-seeded and host Gannon all they could handle in the PSAC Championship match Saturday evening.
But the Mountain Cats just couldn’t get over the hump and dropped three straight sets by the closest of margins in a 3-0 loss at Gannon.
Pitt-Johnstown lost sets by the unfortunate scores of 27-25, 26-24 and 25-23, which is about as close a sweep as any team will suffer.
Erminio, a Laurel Highlands graduate, led her team with 10 kills and was followed in the stat column by teammate Maura Brehl with nine kills.
As the scores would explain, Gannon was just a little bit better and so were their stats, as Beka Smith came up with 16 kills and Kelsey Ansec added 12.
Pitt-Johnstown fell to 24-9 and likely will be in the NCAA bracket, as will Gannon, who will carry a 30-3 record into the Division II championship bracket.
