Cal women, Waynesburg men victorious

Miki Glenn and Seairra Barrett combined for 48 points Tuesday night to lead the California women to a 93-69 non-conference victory over visiting Ohio Dominican.

The Vulcans (6-0) led 26-14, 41-37 and 75-53 at the quarter breaks. The home team held a 52-32 advantage in the second half.

Glenn hit 11-of-12 free throws on her way to game-scoring honors. She also had six assists and five steals.

Barrett made 10-of-14 field goals and finished the game with four fouls.

Lana Doran scored 16 for the Vulcans and Abby Sporio added 10.

Lauren Bates led Ohio Dominican (3-2) with 14 points. Darian Rose scored 12 and Madi Rittinger added 10.

Carnegie Mellon 77, Waynesburg 64 — The Tartans broke a 14-14 tie with a 24-17 advantage in the second quarter for a non-conference road win.

Carnegie Mellon (4-0) outscored the Yellow Jackets in the second half, 38-35.

Addy Knetzer led Waynesburg (2-2) with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Katie Gehlmann finished with 19 points.

Lisa Murphy scored a game-high 26 points for Carnegie Mellon. Jackie Hudepohl and Laurel Pereira both scored 15.

Men’s basketball

Waynesburg 67, Frostburg (Md.) 66 — The Yellow Jackets went on the road Tuesday and returned home with a hard-fought non-conference victory.

Waynesburg (1-1) led 24-23 at halftime. The teams played to a 43-43 draw in the second half.

Jon Knab led the Yellow Jackets with 15 points. Christian Koroly (14) and Timmy Kaiser (11) were also in double figures.

Tyler Michael led the Bobcats (1-3) with 15 points. Christopher Coston scored 12 and Lawrence Pettis Jr. added 10.

Ashland (Ohio) 80, California (Pa.) 67 — Ashland built on its 3-point halftime lead for a non-conference victory over the visiting Vulcans.

The Eagles (4-1) led 35-32 at halftime and outscored California in the second half, 45-35.

Ramon Creighton led the Vulcans (2-4) with 20 points. Nick Miller finished with 14 points and Daniel Sapp added 11.

Ben Haraway led Ashland with 17 points. Nick Bapst had 15. Boo Osborne scored 14 and Marsalis Hamilton added 10.
