Cal U women move up in poll
LILBURN, Ga. — After extending its winning streak to seven games, the California University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team moved up two spots to No. 3 in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 poll, which was released on Tuesday afternoon.
The Vulcans were tabbed No. 5 in last week’s poll after opening up the season with five straight victories. Cal U, which was tabbed No. 8 in the preseason poll, paces the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and ranks eighth in NCAA Division II in scoring offense at 86.0 points per game.
Cal U is one of two teams from the Atlantic region to be featured in the national rankings this week. Defending-regional champion Virginia Union (4-0) jumped up three spots to No. 6 in the poll.
Emporia State (Kan.) moved up one spot to No. 1 after receiving 20 first-place votes. Ashland (Ohio) also climbed one spot to No. 2 and received four first-place votes, while Pittsburg State jumped three spots to No. 4. Bellarmine rounds out the top-five in the poll after being ranked No. 8 last week.
The Vulcans return home on Saturday, Dec. 3, when they host Cheyney in PSAC Crossover play at the Convocaton Center at 1 p.m.
