Waynesburg women win PAC opener

Addy Knetzer scored a game-high 20 points Wednesday night to lead visiting Waynesburg to a 72-62 victory at Bethany (W.Va.) in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The Yellow Jackets improve to 3-2 overall, while the Bison slip to 2-4.

Waynesburg trailed 14-12 after the first quarter, but surged to a 29-27 lead at halftime. The visitors increased the advantage to seven (43-36) at the end of the third quarter.

The Yellow Jackets sealed the win with a 19-16 fourth quarter.

Knetzer also had a double-double, grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds.

Katie Gehlman finished with 15 for the Yellow Jackets, including 10-of-10 from the foul line. Haley Delaney added 10 points.

Kelsea Daugherty, Hayley Holenka and Ashley Duthie all scored 15 points for the Bison.

Men’s basketball

Davis & Elkins (W.Va.) 79, California (Pa.) 64 — The visiting Vulcans fell behind in the first half and couldn’t recover for a non-conference road loss.

Davis & Elkins (1-6) led 39-27 at halftime and carried a 40-37 advantage in the second half.

Tony Richardson led the Vulcans (2-5) with 17 points. Daniel Sapp finished with 13 and Luka Andjusic added 11.

Kevin Bracy-Davis was the lone scorer in double digits for Davis & Elkins with a game-high 35 points. He made 12-of-15 field goal attempts (4-of-6 from 3-point range) and all seven free throws. Rickenjee Bellevue pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds, including 10 off the defensive board.

Lock Haven 101, Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus 68 — Lock Haven led by 22 at the end of the first half and the visitors kept up the pressure in the final 20 minutes for a non-conference road victory.

Lock Haven (5-1) held a 56-34 lead at halftime and then outscored the Roaring Lions in the second half, 45-34.

Jordan Pratt came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points for Penn State Fayette (1-6). Anthony Bristol also came off the bench to finish with 10 points.

All five Lock Haven starters finished in double figures, led by Amir Hinton’s game-high 20 points. Jihad Barnes, Brahieme Jackson and Ra’eese Hunt all scored 12 points, as did Tarojae Brake off the bench. Cole Renninger added 11.

Bethany (W.Va.) 79, Waynesburg 65 — The Bison led by seven at halftime and then doubled its advantage over the final 20 minutes to open the Presidents’ Athletic Conference schedule with a win over the visiting Yellow Jackets.

Bethany (1-0, 4-1) led 30-23 at halftime and held a 49-42 advantage in the second half.

Marcus Wallace led Waynesburg (0-1, 1-4) with 14 points. Jon Knab added 11.

Calique Jones scored a game-high 16 points for the Bison. Andrew Williams finished with 13 and Antonio Rudolph and Nick Metz both scored 12.
