Lady Roaring Lions split triangular

The Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus women’s volleyball team split a non-conference triangular Saturday at Saint Vincent College.

The Lady Roaring Lions defeated host Saint Vincent, 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18), and lost to Mount Aloysius, 3-0 (28-26, 25-17, 26-24).

The victory over the Lady Bearcats was the first for Penn State Fayette.

Janelle Cooper had double-digit performance with 21 digs and 12 kills. Caitlyn Williams had a strong defensive match with 52 digs. Kristen Domer had 22 digs. Tori Helmantholer dished out 35 assists. Siteri Tale finished with 14 kills. Emma Lewis added 14 digs and nine kills.

Helmantholer had 24 assists against Mount Aloysius. Tale had 12 kills and Williams finished with 16 digs. Cooper had six kills and six digs. Lewis finished with 15 digs and seven kills.

Washington & Jefferson 3, Waynesburg 0; Washington & Jefferson 3, Thiel 1 – The Presidents swept the triangular at Thiel by shutting out the Yellow Jackets and rallying to defeat the Tomcats.

W&J lost the first set to Thiel, 25-22, then won the next three, 25-13, 25-20, 25-20. Connellsville graduate Allison Means finished with 26 digs.

The Presidents swept by Waynesburg in the second match, 25-12, 25-17, 25-14.

The team continued its solid play through the second match against Waynesburg, winning three sets in a row by final scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-14.

Daemen (N.Y.) 3, California (Pa.) 0 – The visitors swept by the Vulcans for a non-conference road victory.

Daemen won by the scores, 25-20, 33-32, 25-20.

Megan Litoborski led the Vulcans (7-3) with 29 assists.Women’s soccer

Washington & Jefferson 6, Penn State-Behrend 5 – Ringgold’s Jillian Bartman scored her first two goals of the season as the Presidents rallied for a non-conference road victory.

Bartman’s first goal in the 56th minute tied the match at 3-all and her second goal 17 minutes later tied the game at 4-4.

Elizabeth-Forward’s Josie Madden had an assist. Connellsville’s Ashton Grimm had three shots and Mount Pleasant’s Jordan Toohey added a shot on goal and an assist.

Capital 5, Waynesburg 0 – The Yellow Jackets trailed 1-0 at halftime, but Capital added four second-half goals for a non-conference home victory.

Capital goes to 1-4 overall, while Waynesburg is 2-4.

West Chester 2, California (Pa.) 0 – The Rams scored a goal in each half for a PSAC victory.

Meghan Jayes made four saves for the Vulcans (1-3-2, 1-3-2).Men’s cross country

Penn State-Greater Allegheny Invitational — Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus’ Cameron Coffey and Devin Pisarski finished 1-2 and the Roaring Lions finished second to Frostburg State (Md.) in the 9-team field.

Coffey completed the 8K course in 27:40, three seconds ahead of Pisarski.

Michael Elliott (16, 32:54), Jesse Varndell (23, 34:40), and Pedro Tavarez (30, 37:46) rounded out the top-5 scoring for the Roaring Lions.

Saint Vincent Invitational — Waynesburg finished 12th in the team standings, led by Joel Kuzminski’s finish in 61st place with a time of 30:01.

Mason Klopp (67, 30:24), Cody Nail (68, 30:25), Blake Ettien (69, 30:31), and Justin Lewis (72, 30:51) closed out the Yellow Jackets’ top-5 finishers.

Carnegie Mellon won the team title with 42 points. Indiana (Pa.)’s Austin Cooper finished first in 26:27.

Penn State Behrend Invitational — The host team won the team title with 48 points, but, behind the efforts of Sean Hilverding and Xavier Stephens, the Point Park men placed third with 59. Case Western Reserve was second with 53.

Hilverding, a sophomore from Waynesburg Central, finished fifth overall in a time of 28:54.2. Stephens, a freshman from Albert Gallatin, was 22nd overall in a time of 29:55.8.

Women’s cross country

Penn State-Greater Allegheny Invitational — Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus’ Kirsten Webb was 22nd overall in a time of 29:14. Teammate Mallory Pasquarette finished 23rd in 29:17.

Saint Vincent Invitational — The Waynesburg women finished third in the team standings with 108 points.

Senior Katie Latimer led the Yellow Jackets to the finish line in 10th place with a time of 24:07. Emily Latimer was close behind in 12th place with a time of 24:16.

Angela Marchetti (20, 24:36), Teghan Simonton (25, 24:53), and Taylor Clarkson (41, 25:49) rounded out Waynesburg’s top-5 finishers.

Penn State Behrend Invitational — Kara Rohlf was the first finisher for the Point Park women, who finished third in the team standings with 84 points.

Rohlf, a sophomore from Brownsville, finished ninth overall in a time of 21:14.

Men’s soccer

Capital 3, Waynesburg Central 1 – Zach Mitschke scored the opening goal, but the home team scored the next three for a non-conference victory over the visiting Yellow Jackets.

Hunter Booth, Alexander Basiakos and Tyler Wujczyk all scored in the second half for Capital (5-1). The Yellow Jackets goalie James Snyder made nine saves, while Capital’s Justin Niswonger turned away one shot.

Waynesburg is 2-4 overall.

West Chester 2, California (Pa.) 1 – The Vulcans’ Cooper Amos tied the match in the first half, but Colin Hester scored the game-winner 80:49 of the game for a PSAC victory.

Lucas Exner made four saves for the Vulcans (1-1-1, 3-1-1).
