Trojans get revenge on GCC in non-section win
California got some revenge on Greensburg Central Catholic for a loss in the 2015 WPIAL Class A finals with a 9-2 non-section victory on Tuesday at Greensburg Central Catholic.
California (5-0, 8-1) put up three runs in the fifth inning for a 3-1 lead, and that was all the offense that coach Nick Damico’s team would need, as winning pitcher Nate Luketich helped hand the Centurions (3-0, 3-1) their first loss this season. Luketich had five strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter.
The Trojans had five extra-base hits with Alex Adams, Tyler Jacobs, Richard Stimmell and Enzo Mariscotti picking up doubles.
Adams was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base, while Brandon Powell was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a steal.
California scored two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to extend its lead to 9-1 before GCC added a run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Trojans return to Section 1-AA action this afternoon against Bentworth (3-2, 5-5) at California’s Malden Yards. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
Greensburg Central Catholic looks to get back into the winning column when it faces West Greene (1-3, 1-4) in Section 2-A play. The first pitch is schedule for 4 p.m. at West Greene.
