Trojans continue their winning ways in rout over Rangers

The Trojans continued to roll with a 16-5 Section 1-AA triumph over the Rangers on Monday at Malden Yards.

Fort Cherry (2-6, 4-7) scored two runs in the top of the first, but California (8-0, 11-1) jumped all over the Rangers in the bottom of the inning with 12 runs.

The Nick Damico-led Trojans added two in the second and two in the fourth to put the 10-run Mercy Rule into effect after five innings.

California’s Brandon Powell picked up the pitching victory after allowing five earned runs on eight hits in five innings of work. He had six strikeouts and walked one.

Teammate Alex Adams was 1-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored. The Trojans’ Nate Luketich was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Tyler Jacobs was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs for California.

The home team’s Brenden Padilla had a two-run single in his only plate appearance. Teammate Enzo Mariscotti was 1-for-2 with a run. The Trojans’ Bob Harris rounded out the hitting in batting 1-for-2 with a stolen base.

California travels to second-place Chartiers-Houston (7-1, 8-3) for a Section 1-AA showdown on Wednesday. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. The Trojans beat the Buccaneers, 6-2, in the first meeting between the two on Apr. 5 at Malden Yards.
