Mikes edge Fort Cherry in Section 1-AA play
Carmichaels only had two hits, but it was enough to get by the Fort Cherry in a 3-1 Section 1-AA baseball victory on Friday at Carmichaels High School.
Coach Dickie Krause’s team improved to 8-2 in section play and 10-3 overall with a date with section leader California (10-0, 13-1) at Malden Yards on Monday at 4:15 p.m.
Carmichaels scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. Fort Cherry made things interesting with a run in the top of the sixth, but Mikes starting pitcher Matthew Barrish was able to stay in for a complete-game victory.
Barrish allowed one run (none earned) on six hits, all singles, in seven innings of work. He had eight strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter in throwing 98 pitches (70 strikes). Barrish walked three times and scored two of his team’s three runs.
Liam Shea and Steven Spehar each had an RBI for the home team.
Joel Spishock and Chad Ruse had the two base hits for the Mikes.
Nate Higham took the pitching loss for the Rangers in allowing three runs (one earned) on one hit in four and 1/3 innings of work. He had eight strikeouts and walked five.
