Busy week in wrestling

This was a full week of wrestling news and let’s get right to it.

It seems that every time NXT runs a TakeOver show the night before a major PPV, it steals the show.

Last weekend was no different and if you haven’t seen the NXT show, check it out on the WWE Network.

Asuka headed to Raw or Smackdown

Earlier this week, it was announced that Asuka broke her collar bone in her title defense against Ember Moon, but the news died out as the week went on and instead, word broke that she has relinquished the NXT women’s title and is negotiating with Raw and Smackdown.

Did she legitimately get hurt?

It is possible, but it also may just be a part of a storyline to have her drop the title without losing a match so that she is undefeated once she arrives in WWE.

I am interested to see which brand she shows up on, and time will tell.

Big Cass has knee surgery

Big Cass tore his ACL Monday night against Enzo and had surgery Thursday. He will be out up to nine months, so he will miss WrestleMania.

Reason behind Cena’s move to Raw?

In a report by SI.com this week, the reason behind John Cena’s move to Raw may have to do with Vince McMahon looking to use Cena to elevate Roman Reigns even more than he already is.

I find it odd that McMahon, who turned 72 this past week, thinks that he still needs to elevate Reigns. Fans are not going to start cheering for him if they aren’t already, so just run with it as it is.

Classy Heyman move

Yes, Paul Heyman’s character is of an arrogant loud mouth who hides behind Brock Lesnar.

But those lucky enough to be at Jim Ross’s one-man show in New York City two nights before SummerSlam saw a side of Heyman that very few see.

When WWE is in big towns for major events like WrestleMania, the Royal Rumble and SummerSlam, Ross will host his show and have surprise guests.

Heyman was Ross’s guest and he delivered.

There are different clips floating around the Internet form the event, including some not suitable for kids. But at the end of the show, Heyman paid tribute to Ross and his late wife Jan, who passed away just before Mania.

The link below shows a part of the tribute, and Heyman was all class throughout the tribute. In it, he talks about how Jim Ross stood up for him years ago in WCW and also spoke highly of Jan Ross.

Both Heyman and Ross had genuine tears in their eyes, and Heyman walking off of the stage so that Ross could take it in alone was pure class.

A part of the video can be seen at http://pwinsider.com/article/111805/video-paul-heymans-emotional-speech-at-the-jim-ross-show-this-past-friday.html?p=1.

On this date …

Aug. 27 has been a busy day in pro wrestling history as three different SummerSlam’s took place.

In 1990, the show was headlined by The Ultimate Warrior retaining the WWE championship against Rick Rude in a steel cage match, The Hart Foundation defeated Demolition in a two-out-of-three falls match to win the tag titles, and Kerry Von Erich, as The Texas Tornado, defeated Mr. Perfect Curt Henning for the Intercontinental title.

In 1995, the event took place in Pittsburgh and was the first PPV I ever attended.

The card was below average at best, but it is best known for the ladder match between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon for the Intercontinental title.

The 2000 edition saw The Rock retain the WWE title against Triple H and Kurt Angle in a triple threat match and Edge and Christian retained the tag titles in the first-ever Tables, Ladders and Chairs match against The Dudley Boyz and The Hardy’s.

This week’s question

What is behind all of this talk about Enzo being in the dog house? Craig, Connellsville.

The speculation is that Enzo has upset a lot of people behind the scenes with his attitude. As punishment, he is being sent to 205 Live, but it is two-folded.

Enzo moves so much merchandise, WWE will keep him around.

By moving him to the cruiserweight division, it is looked at as a punishment, but it also could be looked at that if he can pick up the slumping show, he may be moved back to the main roster sooner than later.
