Waynesburg women win at the buzzer
Julie Deklaven’s layup at the buzzer Wednesday night lifted Waynesburg to a 71-70 Presidents’ Athletic Conference victory over visiting Bethany (W.Va.).
The Yellow Jackets (2-1, 4-3) trailed throughout the game until the fourth quarter. The Bison (1-2, 1-6) led 17-16, 37-25 and 53-47 at the quarter breaks.
Waynesburg outscored Bethany in the fourth quarter, 24-16.
Mackenna Drazich scored a team-high 20 points for the Yellow Jackets. Monica Starre had 17 and Addy Knetzer finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Deklaven and Rachel Eng both scored eight points.
Kelsea Daugherty led the Bison with a game-high 27 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds. Sammie Weiss added 18.
Men’s basketball
Bethany 73, Waynesburg 65 — The Yellow Jackets’ rally fell short in the second half for a Presidents’ Athletic Conference loss to the visiting Bison.
Bethany (3-0, 3-5) led 34-21 at halftime, but Waynesburg battled back over the final 20 minutes.
Matt Popeck scored a game-high 25 points for the Yellow Jackets (1-2, 1-5). Jon Knab added 15 and Nate Gearhart finished with 13.
Liam Davis led the Bison with 18 points. Chaice Truex had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Calique Jones added 12 points.
