Fast start propels Lady Leopards past Yough

Belle Vernon dominated the opening period on its way to a 41-20 victory over visiting Yough in the Section 3-AAAA girls basketball opener for both teams on Thursday night.

The Lady Leopards rolled to a commanding 23-0 lead in the first frame but Yough out-scored BV over the final three quarters, 20-18.

Corrin Paquette scored a game-high 10 points for the Lady Cougars (0-5, 0-1).

Caitlyn Trombley, who hit two 3-pointers, and Taylor Rodriguez paced Belle Vernon (3-1, 1-0) with eight points apiece. Nine different players scored for the Lady Leps.

Both teams play again on Monday as the Lady Leopards travel to Southmoreland and the Lady Cougars host Elizabeth Forward.
