Falcons top Spartans, 60-52
Connellsville won its fourth in a row on Saturday with a 60-52 non-section victory at Hempfield.
The Falcons (4-1) led after every quarter break by scores of 16-12, 29-25 and 43-36.
Connellsville’s Seth Younkin scored a game-high 26 points, while teammates Josh Maher and Treyvon Clayton added 12.
The Spartans (1-4) were led in scoring by Braden Brose’s 19 points. Justin Sliwoski had 12 and Reed Hipps added 11.
The Falcons, who defeated Baldwin in their section opener on Friday, travel to Peters Township (0-1, 3-1) on Tuesday. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Lady Spartans 54, Lady Falcons 36 — Hempfield jumped out to a large first quarter lead and never looked back in a non-section win over Connellsville at Hempfield High School
The Lady Spartans (2-2) held a 16-3 advantage after the first. The Lady Falcons (1-4) played Hempfield even in the second, 13-13, but the home team led, 29-16, at halftime.
Connellsville cut the deficit to 37-29 heading into the fourth after outscoring the Lady Spartans, 13-8, in the third, but Hempfield held a 17-7 advantage in the fourth.
The Lady Falcons’ Zoe Youdell led her team in scoring with 11 points. The Lady Spartans’ Allison Podkul put in a game-high 20. Teammate Clara Lideratone added 14.
Connellsville looks to earn its first section win when it travels to Ringgold (2-3) this evening at 7:30 p.m.
