Connellsville rallies past John Marshall
Connellsville overcame four goals from John Marshall’s Ryley Jones to rally for a 5-4 victory on Monday night in Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) Division 2 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia.
The Falcons (4-7-0) trailed 3-2 after the first period but tied the game at 3-3 on Paul Neighbors’ goal at 3:19. Alexander Gesk assisted on Neighbors’ tally.
Connellsville took a 4-3 lead at 2:08 of the third on a goal by Frank Walker (Abraham Thomas assisted). Neighbors set up a Michael McKitrick for the game winner at 3:46 of the third for a 5-3 Falcon lead.
Jones scored his fourth with an unassisted tally on the power play at 11:42 of the third but John Marshall (1-8-1) couldn’t tie the game.
Connellsville took the early lead at 3:34 of the first when Ryan Brown scored on an unassisted goal. After two unassisted goals (one short-handed) by Jones gave John Marshall at 2-1 lead, Brown tied the game at 2-2 with an unassisted short-handed goal of his own at 16:21.
Gage Wilson set up Jones on the power play at 16:54 to give John Marshall the 3-2 lead after the first.
The Falcons outshot John Marshall, 29-16. Connellsville goalie Gerald Furajter made 12 saves and John Marshall’s Hunter Staten stopped 24.
