Waynesburg women beat Geneva, 70-53

The Waynesburg women pulled away in the second quarter Saturday afternoon and the Yellow Jackets made the run stand for a 70-53 Presidents’ Athletic Conference victory over visiting Geneva.

Waynesburg (5-3, 9-6) led 16-15 after the first quarter, but extended the lead to 35-18 at halftime. The teams played even in the second half with a 35-35 score.

Abby Knetzer led the Yellow Jackets with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Haley Delaney also had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Callie Ford scored a game-high 24 points for Geneva (1-7, 4-11).

Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus 80, Penn State Schuylkill 64 — The Lady Roaring Lions trailed after the first quarter, but rallied into the lead at halftime on their way to a PSUAC road victory.

Penn State Fayette led 40-37 at halftime after trailing 22-19 after the first quarter. The Lady Roaring Lions outscored their hosts in the second half, 40-27, to secure the conference road win.

Kori Whitehead came off the bench to lead Penn State Fayette (3-2, 6-8) with 25 points. Courtney Haines had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Joelle Moyer led Penn State Schuylkill with 16 points.

The Penn State Fayette women opened the weekend with an 81-78 conference loss at Penn State Hazleton.

Penn State Hazleton (4-1, 9-2) led 20-17, 43-39 and 63-59 at the quarter breaks. Penn State Fayette held a slight 19-18 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Haines led the way for the Lady Roaring Lions with 26 points. Taylor Smith also topped 20 points with 25, and Haley Moreland added 18.

Haley Nalls scored a game-high 28 points for Penn State Hazleton.

Men’s basketball

Geneva 74, Waynesburg 72 — The Yellow Jackets’ second-half rally fell one basket short in a PAC home loss.

Geneva (4-4, 7-8) led 37-23 at halftime, but Waynesburg rallied for a 49-37 advantage in the second half.

Jon Knab led the Yellow Jackets (2-6, 4-11) with a game-high 24 points. Marcus Wallace added 16.

Ethan Moose was the top scorer for Geneva with 19 points. Chase Vandrin scored 13. Connellsville grad Jimmy Leichliter finished with 12, and David Oliver added 10.

Penn State Schuylkill 103, Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus 99, OT — The home team forced overtime and then kept the momentum alive in the extra period for a PSUAC victory.

The Roaring Lions (3-3, 5-9) led 42-39 at halftime.

Penn State Schuylkill outscored Penn State Fayette in overtime, 13-9.

Dominick Jackson led Penn State Fayette with 25 points. Spencer Perieff (13), Marvin Sidon (12), Ben Wilson (12), and London Hoxie (11) also finished in double figures for the Roaring Lions.

Derek Dimond poured in a game-high 38 points for Penn State Schuylkill.

The Roaring Lions opened the weekend with a 78-72 road victory at Penn State Hazleton.

Penn State Fayette made its 6-point halftime lead stand.

Jackson led the way with 22 points. Perieff finished with 13 and Jordan Pratt and Tanner Huffman scored 10 apiece.

Jacob Solano was the top scorer for Penn State Hazleton (3-3, 5-8) with 21 points. Jordan Singletary added 19.
