Mikes take care of Avella

Carmichaels shook off a sluggish start to beat Avella, 51-38, in non-section boys basketball action Saturday at Avella.

The Mikes improved to 6-9, while sending Avella to its 11th loss in 14 games.

The Egles outscored Carmichaels 8-5 in the first quarter, but Carmichaels owner a 16-6 scoring edge in the second and outscored the hosts, 30-24, in the second half.

Matt Barrish led Carmichaels with 18 points and Joel Spishock added 10. Kevin Painter scored 12 for the Eagles and Garrett Geresti added 10.

The Mikes return to Section 2-AA action Tuesday by visiting Chartiers-Houston. Avella hosts Monessen in a Section 2-A game also Tuesday.
