Uniontown swimmers sweep non-section meet
Uniontown (boys) 88, Greensburg Salem 57; Uniontown (girls) 90, Greensburg Salem 75 – The Uniontown swimming teams took a break from Section 5-AA action Monday afternoon and the effort produced a sweep of Greensburg Salem in the non-section meet.
The Uniontown boys defeated the Golden Lions, 88-57, while the Lady Raiders beat the Greensburg Salem girls, 90-75.
Harry Strauser (200 IM, 2:39.38), Riley Gilleland (100 butterfly, 1:03.45), Chase Bowen (100 freestyle, 59.17), and Jonathan Sharp (500 freestyle, 5:29.63) all had first-place finishes for the Red Raiders.
Sharp, Bowen, Gilleland and Evan Klatt won the 200 medley relay in 1:55.96. The same quartet finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.53. Jack Killinger, Strauser, Bailey Kalivoda and Jonathan Desvarro completed a sweep of the relays by winning in 4:30.75
William Crites (200 freestyle, 2:39.38; 100 backstroke, 1:09.93) and Tristan Elma (50 freestyle, 25.56; 100 backstroke, 1:11.18) accounted for Greensburg Salem’s first-place finishes.
Rylee Levander, Molly Rabon, Valerie Grimes and Rachel Van Nosdeln started things for the Lady Raiders by winning the 200 medley relay in 2:08.53.
But, Greensburg Salem won the next four events. Brooke Smith (200 freestyle, 2:16.93; 100 butterfly, 1:09.33) sandwiched first-place finishes by Erica Steele (200 IM, 2:26.89; 50 freestyle, 27.0).
Grimes got the visiting Lady Raiders back by winning the 100 freestyle in 1:01.80. Van Nosdeln won the 500 freestyle in 5:47.84, but Greensburg Salem took first in the 200 freestyle relay.
The Uniontown girls then won the final three events, led off by Levander’s win in the 100 backstroke (1:14.83). Rabon finished first in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.84), and the Lady Raiders capped off the win with Abigail Strauser, Maeve Carei, Savannah Baker and Macy Mills winning the 400 freestyle relay in 4:53.55.
