Close games highlight GSBL play

Billy DeShields and Cam Fitzgerald led the Raiders with 17 points each en route to a victory over the Gators, 64-55, in Wednesday night’s Grant Street Basketball League games.

Team Boo-ya rode out a 28-24 halftime lead into a 49-46 win over Ball Out’s high school team. Boo-ya’s Joel Lonigro led all scorers with 19, and Ahmad Hooper led Ball Out with 13. Mill Street Market upended Fayette’s Finest, 49-45.

Team Young rectified Monday’s loss with a win against EZ Money, 38-35. Jeff Young paved way with 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while Ben Wilson chipped in 19 for EZ Money. Team Juan took advantage of a short-handed Glow to pull away with an easy victory, while Next Level’s Tavian Mozey and London Hoxie poured in 16 and 13, respectively, as they handed Big Willie Style their first loss of the season.

Davis and Davis remained perfect in the 5-6th grade division, beating APEX Cleaning. Notorious Grooms and Calvin Winfrey paced Davis and Davis in a high-paced up-tempo game. In a doubleheader, APEX Cleaning handed the Warriors their second loss in as many games. APEX was lead by Harlin Davis (7) and Nijah Higgins (5) in the 31-16 victory.

In middle school action, Ball Out’s Nyqwan McCargo’s 19 points proved to be enough to take down Next Level, 47-39. Filling in for a short-handed Next Level team, Nate Campbell led all scorers with 21. Jimmy Harim and Jayce Hemp both scored eight points to lead The Truth to a 45-11 win over the Mounties. The middle school game of the night saw the Flying Dutchmen defeat Fayette’s Finest in overtime, 31-28. Leonard Harris led the way for the Flying Dutchman, netting 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Rodney Gallagher led Fayette’s Finest with 9.

Games will resume on Monday, July 10, at 5 p.m.
