Connellsville LL all-stars open with 10-9 win

The Connellsville 10-12 Little League All-Stars had an anxious moment or two in the top of the sixth inning Saturday night, but managed to hold on to a 10-9 victory over West Point in the opening game of the Section 2 tournament in Kittanning.

Connellsville advances into the winner’s bracket and plays North Allegheny Sunday night at 7 p.m.

West Point scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Jared Hough held on to preserve the victory.

The game was tied at 7-all when Connellsville scored three runs on three bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the fifth inning.

West Point scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Connellsville countered with a pair on the bottom of the inning on Hough’s two-run home run.

The visitors scored two runs in the top of the second, only to have Connellsville match with two runs scoring on bases-loaded walks.

West Point added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Hough belted a 3-run home run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

“Tonight was a little rocky,” said Connellsville manager Brett Puskar. “We battled. They never gave up.”

Beau Bigam pitched the third, fourth and fifth innings to earn the win. He had two strikeouts. Zane Addis started and pitched the first two innings, striking out three.
