Local roundup: Mitch’s Bail Bonds picks up pair of wins
Sunday was twice as nice for Mitch’s Bail Bonds which earned a pair of seven-inning home victories in Fayette County Baseball League action, defeating Better Edge, 8-6, and Mill Run, 5-1.
The victories keep Mitch’s (14-3) one game behind first-place Carmichaels.
Mitch’s jumped out to a 5-0 lead against Better Edge with three runs in the first and two more in the second before the visitors plated three runs in the top of the third to pull within two.
After Mitch’s tallied another run to up 6-3 in the fourth, Better Edge put together a three-run rally to tie it, 6-6.
Mitch’s surged back in front in the bottom of the frame, though. thanks to Zach Skatell’s RBI siingle and added an insurance run in the sixth to set the final score.
Reliever Nate Luketich picked up the win with 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Josh Brannell drove in three runs with a double and a single for Mitch’s. Isaac Echard and Skatell each also had two hits and Matt Tarabek smacked a double.
Bobby Finn, who suffered the loss in relief, and Jake Porter each doubled for Better Edge (8-10).
In the second game, Mitch’s broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the fourth, then added another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to pull away for the win.
Winning pitcher Brian Fisher out-dueled Trevor Farrell as both hurlers tossed complete games.
Fisher scattered seven hits and walked three while striking out seven.
Farrell struck out nine and walked four while surrendering eight hits for Mill Run (9-7).
Luketich and Jack Oberdorf doubled for Mitch’s and Tarabek had two hits.
Cade Warrick doubled for Mill Run.
Mitch’s is at Little Joey’s Pizza on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Carmichaels 15, Little Joeys Pizza 1 — Joe Havrilak and Tyler Godwin both homered and doubled as Carmichaels pounded host Little Joeys Pizza in five innings on Sunday.
Havrilak drove in four runs and Godwin had three RBIs in support of winning pitcher Ryan Minteer, who allowed one run in four innings with three strikeouts and two walks.
Hunter Robinson doubled and singled for the Copperheads (15-2), Joby Lapkowicz also had two hits and Chuck Gasti added a double.
Carmichaels scored once in the first then exploded for nine runs in the second to blow the game open.
Jim Cales doubled and singled for Little Joeys (4-12) and Jake Bevard had two hits.
Losing pitcher Austin Bergman with all five innings, striking out two and walking seven.
