Little Joeys Pizza holds off Better Edge, 6-5
Ronnie Skinner and Tyler Spohn each had two RBIs as Little Joeys Pizza held off visiting Better Edge, 6-5, in Fayette County Baseball League action on Monday night.
Winning pitcher Aaron Skinner allowed nine hits and eight walks with seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings, but ran into trouble in the seventh.
Skinner allowed a single to Russ Ritenour, a walk and a hit batsman to load the bases before getting a strikeout and a force out at home but Mike Baird followed with a two-run single, sending the tying run to third.
Brandon Lawless then relieved Skinner and got a game-ending strikeout to earn the save.
Little Joeys (5-12) jumped out to a 5-0 lead with two runs in the first and three more in the second. Better Edge fought back with two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth to pull within two.
Spohn’s run-scoring ground out pushed across what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-3.
Ronnie Skinner and Lawless had two hits apiece for Little Joeys.
Doug Leighty doubled and singled for Better Edge (8-11). Ritenour and T.J. Lux each also had two hits for the visitors.
Shane Fajt took the loss.
