Fairchance hosting Little League softball state finals
Fairchance is the site for the 2017 Pennsylvania State Championship Little League Girls 9-11 year old Softball Finals this weekend but the festivities start tonight.
Fairchance Little League will host a 7 p.m. pre-tournament dinner for all teams at the Fairchance Volunteer Fire Department.
The participating teams will be recognized at the dinner and presented their state tournament pins.
Fairchance will be representing District 9 in the tournament. Games will be played at Fairchance Community Park.
The six-team field will also include DuBois from District 10, Williamsport from District 12, Nittany Valley from District 5, Pittston from District 16 and Lower Perkiomen from District 27.
The double-elimination tournament runs from Friday until Aug. 3.
Fairchance will open play 7 p.m. Friday when it will take on the winner of the 3 p.m. game between Williamsport and Lower Perkiomen.
Also Friday, Pittston plays Nittany Valley at 1 p.m. with the winner meeting DuBois at 5 p.m.
If Fairchance wins Friday, it will play the Pittston/Nittany Valley vs. DuBois winner Saturday at 7 p.m. A loss on Friday would drop the host team into the losers bracket where it would play the Pittston vs. Nittany Valley loser Saturday at 1 p.m.
