Carmichaels Legion rallies for 6-4 win
Carmichaels scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday night to rally past visiting Belle Vernon, 6-4, in Fayette American Legion Baseball League action.
Belle Vernon (2-4) scored single runs in the top of the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, but Carmichaels rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Yale Johnston had a two-run double. Barrish’s suicide squeeze attempt became an infield single. He advanced to second on a throwing error on the play and made third on a wild pitch. He scored on Jacob Hair’s suicide squeeze.
Carmichaels (3-3) then scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on RBI doubles by Lane Zekir and Jacob Knizner.
Belle Vernon scored a lone run in the top of the seventh, but Brad Ruse got the final two outs to preserve the win.
Barrish went seven innings for the win. He allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits. He struck out five and walked one.
Zekir had a pair of doubles and Dylan Rush finished with two singles.
Max Gauden led Belle Vernon with a double and three singles. Jordan Hartman had three singles.
Carmichaels hosts Colonial 3 tonight.
County League
Carmichaels 10, Mill Run 0 — Jake Calloway hit a grand slam and Eric Holt added a three-run homer as Carmichaels rolled past visiting Mill Run in five innings in Fayette County Baseball League action.
Tyler Godwin had three singles in the Copperheads’ 13-hit attack while Calloway, Holt and Chuck Gasti had two hits apiece.
Winning pitcher Hunter Robinson allowed only a first-inning single by Derek Orndorff and a pair of walks with four strikeouts in four innings of work. Joby Lapkowicz tossed a scoreless fifth and added a double with the bat.
Losing pitcher Jim Malone struck out three and walked two in going all four innings for Mill Run (6-4).
Calloway’s grand slam came in the first inning to give Carmichaels (7-2) a 4-0 lead. The Copperheads added two runs in the third and four in the fourth as Joe Havrilak followed Holt’s three-run blast with a solo shot.
Carmichaels hosts Brownsville at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Better Edge 3, Little Joeys Pizza 2 — Brian Shaffer came home with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Better Edge rallied for a Fayette County Baseball League victory.
Shaffer led off with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball. He scored on Shane Fajt’s ground out.
Little Joeys Pizza (4-6) scored single runs in the top of the first and third innings, but Better Edge responded with single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.
Dylan Stark pitched into the seventh inning for the win. He struck out nine and walked one. Matt Waigard picked up the final three outs for the save.
Dylan Pietrantoni had two doubles for Better Edge (7-4).
