Southmoreland sweeps opening track meet
The Southmoreland boys and girls track teams started the season on a winning note Tuesday afternoon by sweeping visiting East Allegheny in Section 4-AA action.
The Scotties defeated East Allegheny, 86-62, while the Southmoreland girls cruised to a 104-45 victory over the Lady Wildcats.
The Southmoreland boys won 10 events, but it was the second- and third-place finishes that made the final difference in the scoring.
Bretty Glowacki swept the distance runs, winning the 1,600 (5:37) and 3,200 (12:53). Logan Stoner (800, 2:17.7), Zak Leighty (200, 2:46), Alex Busato (discus, 113-0), Sawyer Clark (shot put, 39-6¾), Vinnie Keffer (high jump, 5-10), and Nate Lockhart (pole vault, 10-0) also had individual first-place finishes.
The Scotties also won the 400 relay (48.0) and 1,600 relay (3:57).
Kaylee Farino also swept the distance runs with first-place finishes in the 1,600 (6:26) and 3,200 (12:39.8). Jenna Conty won the 100 high (17.2) and 300 intermediate (56.6) hurdles.
Alison Huffman (800, 2:46.3), Mikayla Rhodes (discus, 74-2), Brooke Corley (javelin, 82-11), Amelia Echard (triple jump, 30-4), and Shannon Henry (pole vault, 6-0) also finished first.
The Lady Scots won the 3,200 relay (12:27.5) and 400 relay (57.3).
