Kalsey honored

Westminster redshirt senior Marissa Kalsey was honored during the 14th Annual WESPYs (Westminster Exceptional Sports Performances of the Year) for her return to the track this spring.

The Waynesburg Central graduate received the women’s Comeback Athlete of the Year after she was injured early in the 2016 outdoor season and opted to return this spring for her final season.

Teammate and fellow vaulter Cassidy Shepherd, a Greensburg Salem graduate, was presented the Walker Award as the female athlete who best exemplified the qualities of fairness, sportsmanship, leadership, determination and competitiveness.

Football player Loren Kumher was recognized as the Male Comeback Athlete of the Year.

Softball

PAC teams announced

Thomas More’s Alix DeDreu was honored as the PAC Player of the Year, while Saints coach Lindsay Eagan was recognized as the conference Coach of the Year with the release of the PAC all-conference teams.

Waynesburg first baseman Alex Lawrence and second baseman Ashley Dubovich, an Albert Gallatin graduate, received second-team honors. Utility player Rachel Skon was honorable mention.

PSAC West recognizes Price, Wilson

California University of Pa.’s Emily Price and Paige Wilson were recognized for their play this past season by the PSAC West Conference.

Price was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year. The junior shortstop was also an All-PSAC West Conference first-team selection for the second-straight season. Price led the conference with a .520 on-base percentage and was fourth with a .429 batting average (54-for-126) with 14 doubles, 25 RBI, 30 runs scored and a .611 slugging percentage.

Wilson was recognized as the PSAC West Freshman of the Year. The freshman third baseman missed the final 12 games of the season, as well as the conference tournament. She had a .397 batting average (31-for-78) with nine RBI and seven runs scored.

Senior designated player Megan Jahoda was named to the first-team for the second straight year. She was third on the team with a .347 batting average (34-for-98).

Baseball

Yourgal receives award

California University of Pa. senior Joe Yourgal was the recipient of the Bruce Dal Canton Pitching Award given in memory of Bruce Del Canton to the pitcher who truly exemplifies greatness of character.

Yourgal went 3-0 with two saves and a 2.19 ERA ins 12 relief appearances. He finished his career with a 5-4 record and three saves in 26 appearances.
