Lady Trojans hold off Mapletown
California 3, Mapletown 0 – California was wary of Mapletown this time around but still had a tough time putting away the Lady Maples despite a 3-0 score in their Section 2-A girls volleyball match on Tuesday night.
Mapletown handed the visiting Lady Trojans a surprising 3-1 setback on Sept. 7, but host California (7-2, 6-2) held off the Lady Maples (6-5, 4-5) in the rematch, 27-25, 25-20 and 25-22.
The win sets up a showdown at first-place Frazier for California on Thursday night.
Anna Gillespie led the Lady Trojans against Mapletown with 13 kills, eight digs and two service points, and Addie O’Savage contributed seven digs, four kills and two service points. Ina Helmick had 20 assists and two service points for California, while Hanna Engle added seven digs and three kills and Marlee Renner chipped in with six service points and three kills.
Morgan Helmick had 14 assists and Makenzie Cree had 14 digs for the Lady Maples, who also got six kills from Madison Helmick and three blocks from Taylor Vanata.
