IUP wins Coal Bowl battle with Cal U

Indiana (Pa.) scored two touchdowns in the second half Saturday afternoon to win the 9th annual Coal Bowl with a 26-10 victory over visiting California (Pa.).

The Crimson Hawks, the fourth-ranked team in the country, improve to 3-0 in the PSAC West and 6-0 overall. The Vulcans, ranked 16th entering the game, go to 1-2 in the conference and 4-2 overall.

Kolbe Hughes gathered in a 7-yard touchdown pass from Lenny Williams at 9:40 of the third quarter. Williams then found Swahneek Brown three minutes later for a 37-yard touchdown pass.

Hughes completed 15-of-24 passes for 268 yards and one interception. His 16-yard touchdown pass to Malik Anderson early in the first quarter opened the scoring.

Duane Brown’s 1-yard run with 1:36 to go in the first quarter gave the Crimson Hawks a 12-0 lead after both extra points were blocked.

The Vulcans rallied back in the second quarter when Michael Keir found Tom Greene open for an 11-yard touchdown pass at 10:15. Will Brazill hit a 26-yard field goal with 11 seconds left in the first half for a 12-10 halftime score.

Keir was 22-of-48 for 232 yards and one interception. Greene caught 10 passes for 109 yards.
