Lady Raiders shut out Southmoreland, 7-0
Madison Clayton netted four goals Monday night to lead Waynesburg Central to a 7-0 Section 3-AA road victory at Southmoreland.
Waynesburg improves to 9-0-0 in the section and 13-1-0 overall, and hosts second-place Yough (9-1-0, 12-1-0) Wednesday night with the opportunity to clinch the section title.
The Lady Raiders won the first meeting, 7-4.
The Lady Scots are still in playoff contention despite the loss, slipping to 4-7-0 in the section and 4-9-0 overall. Charleroi, who lost to Yough, 2-0, is the fourth and final playoff spot with a record of 4-6-0.
Clayton scored the third and fourth goals of the first half and the final two goals of the match. She also assisted on Rhea Kijowski’s goal in the second half.
Jillian Kijowski opened the scoring on a penalty kick at 36:48. She then assisted on the next three goals, the first to Bailey Fudala and the final two on Clayton’s goals.
McKenzie Booth stopped seven shots to preserve the shutout.
Southmoreland’s Marti Burke made 11 saves.
