Uniontown graduate Julie Friend was the individual winner and helped California University of Pa.’s women’s cross country team earn the team title at the 46th annual Marty Uher Invitational at Roadman Park on Saturday afternoon.

Friend, a red-shirt senior running in her first meet since 2015, was one of five Vulcans who finished in the top 10 in the season-opening meet as Cal totaled 25 points to beat out Slippery Rock (33).

Friend finished the course in 23 minutes, 40.8 seconds to finish first overall in the event for the third time.

Friend, who holds multiple Vulcan records, last competed in the 2015 NCAA National Championships in Joplin, Missouri, winning that event by nearly three minutes while being the only runner in the field to post a sub-four-minute average per kilometer.

Cal will compete in the Bethany Invitational on Saturday.
