Westminster scores 21 unanswered in 28-7 win over Waynesburg U
Waynesburg University had trouble getting its offense going in a 28-7 setback to Westminster on Saturday at John F. Wiley Stadium in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
The Yellow Jackets (0-1, 0-2) tied the game at 7-7 when Alec Watts pulled in a 12-yard reception from Tyler Perone at 13:41 of the second quarter following Garret Guthrie’s PAT.
The Titans (1-0, 1-1) responded in scoring three touchdowns and shutting out the Waynesburg offense the rest of the game.
Kimu Kim, who scored Westminster’s first touchdown, added his second score on a three-yard run at 5:41 of the second for a 14-7 lead at halftime.
The Yellow Jackets hung tough on defense, but couldn’t score in the third, and the Titans held a 14-7 lead after three.
Laurel Highlands graduate and Waynesburg sophomore Jarves Crews led the Yellow Jackets in rushing with 77 yards on 13 carries for a 4.5 average, and a long of 13.
Waynesburg Central graduate John-Glen Davis had 12 tackles (6 solo, 6 assists) to lead the home team. Teammate and Uniontown graduate Tristan Sandrosky had 7 tackles (4 solo, 3 assists). West Greene graduate Will VanNorman had three stops (2 solo, 1 assist) for the Jackets.
Perone was 11 of 24 for 83 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. His favorite target was Chad Walker, who caught six passes for 26 yards. Teammate Mitch Kendra had 18 yards on two receptions.
