Fillies rally for 3-1 win at Yough
Laurel Highlands dropped the first game but recovered to win the next three and put away host Yough, 3-1, in a non-section girls volleyball match on Thursday night.
The Lady Cougars secured a 25-21 win to go up 1-0 before the Fillies (3-2) took charge with wins of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-10 to close out the match.
Angel Buwawa totaled 98 service points, eight kills and 10 digs for LH. Abby Fleenor contributed 10 kills and five blocks, Cassidy Podlogar racked up 12 kills and 10 service points and Maddie Wheeler added 34 assists and four kills.
California 3, Geibel Catholic 1 — Geibel tied the Section 2-A match in the second set, but visiting California won the final two for the victory.
California won the opening set, 26-24, and the Lady Gators tied the match in the second set, 25-23. The Lady Trojans secured the road victory with 25-19 and 25-13 set wins.
Anna Gillespie paved the way to victory for California with 20 kills and two blocks. Mya Fetty had five kills, Addie O’Savage added three kills and Ina Helmick had 29 assists.
Shannon Watkins led the Lady Gators with 36 assists. Paige Bogozi had a nice all-around performance with 23 digs and 12 kills. Alexa Henckel had a nice defensive showing with nine kills and 19 digs.
Carmichaels 3, Bentworth 0 — Meighan Spishock served up 16 points and added five kills as Carmichaels remained undefeated with a win over host Bentworth in a Section 2-A girls volleyball match.
The Lady Mikes (4-0, 4-0) won by scores of 25-11, 25-15 and 25-13.
Jadyn Barnish totaled 12 service points and 11 assists, and Aubree Ferek contributed nine service points and 11 digs for Carmichaels. The Lady Mikes also got five kills from Taylor Christopher, four kills from Kristina Aeschbacher and 10 assists from Grace Kerr.
Frazier 3, West Greene 1 — Frazier battled past host West Greene in a Section 2-A match.
The Lady Commodores (3-1, 3-1) took the first game, 25-20, before the Lady Pioneers (1-2, 1-2) pulled even with a 25-19 win in the second game. Frazier went up 2-1 with a 25-16 win in the third game then held off the hosts, 25-22, to put the match away in the fourth game.
Skye Eicher led Frazier with 19 kills, Sierra Twigg rang up 14 service points and Kaelyn Shaporka had five blocks.
Uniontown 3, Belle Vernon 2 — Uniontown won the odd sets for a Section 3-AAA road victory at Belle Vernon.
The Lady Raiders won the first set, 25-13, and Belle Vernon tied the match with a 25-22 win in the second. Uniontown regained the lead with a 25-13 victory in the third set, but the Lady Leopards forced a tie-breaking fifth set with a 25-14 victory.
Uniontown won the final set, 15-13.
Kendall Husar had 14 kills for the Lady Leopards (0-3).
Elizabeth Forward 3, Albert Gallatin 0 — Elizabeth Forward took control after winning a tight first game and went on to defeat visiting Albert Gallatin in a Section 3-AAA match.
The undefeated Lady Warriors (5-0, 3-0) won by scores of 25-23, 25-13, 25-17.
Sadie Porter led Elizabeth Forward with 10 kills. Emma Barowich added 16 digs for the Lady Warriors and Sara Beatty chipped in with four aces.
Jayla Johnson led the Lady Colonials (1-3, 1-3) with seven kills, two blocks, one ace and one dig. Megan Harkins contributed five digs, three kills, two blocks and one ace, Odessa Hillard totaled four blocks, two kills, one dig and one ace and Noelle Hall added six assists, three digs and one ace.
College volleyball
Saint Vincent 3, Penn State Fayette 0 — Saint Vincent College and Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus took a break from volleyball conference play with the Lady Bearcats securing a victory.
Saint Vincent College won by the scores, 25-7, 25-18, 25-15.
Uniontown graduate Sarah Wozniak had six kills for the Lady Bearcats (6-3). Marisa O’Dell finished with 28 assists and four service aces. Meghan Taylor led with eight digs.
Machaela Hall led the Lady Roaring Lions (2-3) with 12 assists. Laurel Highlands graduate Siteri Tale had seven kills.
