Clayton nets hat trick in Lady Raiders’ 4-1 victory

Pitt recruit Madison Clayton had a hat trick in leading Waynesburg Central to a 4-1 non-section victory over Elizabeth Forward on Saturday at Elizabeth Forward.

Clayton, who has 21 goals this season, now sits at 106 in her career.

Clayton scored at 8:49 and 10:59 of the first half, and added her third tally at 22:23 of the second. Kaley Pell assisted on the first, and Rhea Kijowski on the second and third.

Jillian Kijowski gave the Lady Raiders (3-0, 6-1) a 3-0 lead in the first half when she converted on a penalty kick at 24:11 after the Lady Warriors (3-0, 3-2) committed a hand ball in the box.

Anna Resnik’s goal in the 34th minute of the first cut Elizabeth Forward’s deficit to 3-1.

Waynesburg Central had 13 shots on goal and the Lady Warriors had 12.

Lady Raiders keeper McKenzie Booth made 11 saves.

Waynesburg returns to Section 3-AA action this evening when it hosts Southmoreland (2-2, 2-3) at 7:30 p.m.

Elizabeth Forward looks to get back on track when it hosts Belle Vernon (3-0, 4-2) tonight in Section 2-AAA play at 7:30 p.m.

Uniontown 7, Geibel Catholic 2 — The Lady Raiders won their second straight match following a non-section victory over the Lady Gators at Geibel Catholic High School.

Uniontown’s Hanna Merschat scored four goals.

Teammates Abby Marinucci, Mary Stevenson and Zaybrallia Sykes also scored.

Geibel Catholic’s Nina Alvarez and Piper Scarry scored.

The Lady Raiders, who host Mount Pleasant (1-1, 2-4) on tonight at 7 p.m. in a Section 2-AAA match, improved to 2-5 overall.

Brownsville 5, Geibel Catholic 2 — The Falcons trailed early to the Gators but rallied for three goals in the first half en route to a non-section victory at Geibel Catholic.

Brownsville’s Jake Sabatula tied the match at 34:47 of the first half with teammate Trevor Stewart setting up the goal.

Sabatula set up CJ Eperjesi for the Falcons’ second goal at 22:59 for a 2-1 lead. The visitors extended their lead to 3-1 when Mark Sheranek added an unassisted tally at 21:40 of the first.

Geibel Catholic (0-3-1, 0-4-2) cut the deficit to 3-2 at 4:53 remaining in the half.

Eli Ruffcorn (Carlos Ramirez assisted) and Nick Climes (unassisted) scored for Brownsville (4-0, 7-0-1) in the second half.

The Falcons had 19 shots on goal to four for the Gators. Brownsville keeper Nate Kovscek made two saves.

The Falcons return to the pitch on Tuesday night when they host Charleroi (4-1, 5-3) at 7 p.m. in a 3-AA match at Redstone Field.

Albert Gallatin 4, Uniontown 2 — Nate Sutton’s hat trick led the Colonials to a Section 3-AAA victory over the Red Raiders at Albert Gallatin Stadium.

Luke Tarcy set up Adam Simon for Albert Gallatin’s first goal, and Sutton added the second for a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Uniontown (0-3, 1-6) cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime.

Simon set up Sutton for his second goal and a 3-1 lead for the Colonials (1-2, 2-4-1).

The Red Raiders once again cut into the lead before Sutton was fouled in the box and converted on a penalty kick for a 4-2 lead.

Sutton has six goals this season and Simon three. Albert Gallatin had 15 shots on goal, and Uniontown put 17 on AG keeper Christian Hicks, who made 15 saves.

The Colonials return to action on Tuesday when they host Laurel Highlands (2-0, 5-1-1) in a Section 3-AAA battle at 7 p.m.

Uniontown looks to earn its first section victory on Tuesday when it hosts Trinity (1-2, 3-3) at 7 p.m.

Belle Vernon 7, Trinity 0 — Markello Apodiakos scored two goals in both the first and second halves to lead the Leopards to a victory over the Hillers in Section 3-AAA play at Trinity Stadium.

Belle Vernon (2-1, 5-1) jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the first half when Apodiakos scored his two, and teammates Jackson Guess and Dawson Quinto found the back of the net.

Apodiakos and Quinto scored for the Leopards in the second.

Belle Vernon’s back line held Trinity (1-2, 3-3) in check, as keeper Cam Guess only had to make two saves in securing his second straight clean sheet.

The Leopards are back in section play at Ringgold (2-0-1, 3-2-1) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
